At the corner of Wine Country Road and Merlot Drive, all signs point to love and a holiday.
This marks the first full summer for Prosser’s new Holiday Inn built by Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. The Oklahoma City-based company worked with SCJ to ready the hotel site and complete a cluster of related projects.
“We love to see multifaceted projects like this come together,” said Brandon Johnson, principal and civil engineering manager at SCJ. “The roads and intersection were past due for an upgrade, and doing so with the additions from Love’s really made an impact on the community.”
In addition to the hotel, other new businesses include an auto and diesel fueling station, a country store, a drive-through fast food restaurant, and a tire care facility.
The project also included widening Wine Country Road and installing a traffic signal where it meets Gap Road. Review and permitting of these offsite improvements was completed through the Washington State Department of Transportation as part of an interlocal agreement with the City of Prosser.
The travel stop opened before the hotel. So, SCJ worked closely with multiple architects and design and construction teams to prepare a set of phased construction documents.
“We jumped at this first opportunity to work with Love’s hospitality group,” Brandon said. “But it’s one in a long line of Love’s projects we’ve done throughout the western United States. We make a great team.”
