AAA is projecting this 2016 Memorial Day Weekend to be the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record, with more 38 million Americans hitting the road. The three-day weekend is the unofficial kick-off to summer, and what better way for Washingtonians to celebrate than a camping trip on the sunny, east side of the state!
“Orondo River Park is a great spot for water-loving campers,” said SCJ planner, Jerry Litt. “SCJ’s planning and landscape architecture teams completed the comprehensive plan for the park in 2014, and the enhancements have been well-received.”
The 6-acre park offers RV and tent camping, swimming, boat launching and dock facilities, picnicking, volleyball, fishing and more.
The comprehensive plan provided facility maintenance/replacement recommendations and a matrix with the anticipated costs to assist in determining the park’s capital facility needs.
SCJ created the comprehensive planning document, after providing a facility assessment, determining the condition of existing facilities, and providing recommendations for site repairs or upgrades to the existing facilities.
Park users were also surveyed to assist with determining the facilities they felt needed upgrades or improvements.
One of the stated goals of the plan is to support and recognize the value and role of parks and recreational opportunities in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life, creating a positive community environment, and contributing to economic vitality.
Jerry said, “What we’ve seen from Orondo River Park since the plan’s approval is a testament to that lofty, but critical goal.”
