INVOLVEMENT
2015-2016

The historic 32-acre Brewhouse site along the Deschutes River housed the Olympia Brewery from 1896 to 2003.  The Thurston Economic Development Council, in cooperation with the City of Tumwater, hired SCJ to identify environmental concerns through a Planned Action Environmental Impact Study (EIS) and create a mitigation strategy on a portion of the former brewery site to promote redevelopment of this iconic site.

The EIS will address alternative development scenarios, including commercial, retail, residential, hotel, restaurant, and distillery uses that will revitalize a site that has a distinct historical, cultural, and community value.

STAFF STORY

“There are repeated reports in the press on the importance of the Brewery to this area. I hope that this Planned Action EIS helps promote redevelopment of the site. It’s such an icon for our region and there’s important history to save, and the best way to preserve history is to use it.”
