The $240 million expansion of the Southcenter Mall included two parking garages and 400,000 additional square feet of shopping space, featuring 75 specialty shops, a restaurant promenade, two dining terraces with views of Mount Rainier, and a 16-screen movie theater.

SCJ landscape architects designed a key feature of the project: a lively, welcoming plaza and gathering spaces along the entire south expansion node.

These design services included comprehensive hardscape and paving design for the entry promenades, site furnishings including planters and seating areas, interior and exterior landscape design, and subsurface, high-efficiency irrigation system design.

The team also provided landscape and irrigation design for several additional outparcels that were part of the total 1.7-million-square-foot expansion. These included a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, Bank of America, and Fidelity Investment Center.
