INVOLVEMENT
2012-2015

Parcel 14 is an approximately 120-acre, undeveloped site located along the south boundary of the Port of Tacoma adjacent to the city of Fife. The Port has identified this site as a future industrial development area.

In order to address current onsite drainage issues and to prepare for the future industrial development, the Port hired SCJ Alliance to develop an interim grading plan to allow positive drainage flow. We also analyzed the adjacent, existing infrastructure to determine what upgrades are needed for future development.

The SCJ team has prepared preliminary design drawings of those improvements including the widening of 12th Street to allow for future truck demands while providing green street elements including bioswales and filter strips, the widening of 8th Street including preparing drainage upgrades and moving a lift station, and the relocation of existing drainage along 12th Street to allow for street widening.

STAFF STORY

“We almost didn’t pursue this project. Not because we couldn’t do the work, and do it well, but because the public RFQ process can be daunting.  What were are chances of winning considering the outstanding quality of the competition? And, we hadn’t previously worked for the Port of Tacoma.  At the end of the day, we decided to submit a proposal because of our desire to work for the Port of Tacoma and our team’s history with the area.  We were very excited when the Port selected our team!”
