Cable Car: Ground Supported Systems

Ground propelled systems include cable cars, like those made popular in San Francisco, and many other rapid transit designs. Automated people movers like those at the Detroit Airport; the Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada; and the Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, France are also ground propelled systems. We worked on all of these. Ground supported systems sit on tracks or rails, yet are still propelled by a cable. Ground supported cable technologies include: “Heritage” cable cars, some varieties of automated people movers (APMS), funiculars, hybrid funiculars, cable liners, and mini metros.
