Capitol Boulevard is the primary north-south arterial through Tumwater, serving a wide array of businesses, neighborhoods, and employment centers. SCJ was selected to lead the design of improvements to Capitol Boulevard from M Street to Dennis Street, which includes federal STP funds.

The corridor design is part of a master plan to improve economic conditions, improve mobility, enhance pedestrian/bicycle facilities, and improve aesthetic appeal. Scott Sawyer served as project manager to prepare preliminary design and NEPA documentation to construct curb, gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes, utility undergrounding, roundabouts, raised center medians, and street lighting.

STAFF STORY

“This project is right down the road from my house. I drive the corridor, ride my bike down Capital Boulevard, and shop at stores on a regular basis. It is a special privilege to work on a project like this and give back to our own communities. The improvements will make a big difference in making this a place for Tumwater, especially the roundabout at Capital and Trosper.”
