SCJ provided the design for site improvements encompassing over 220,000 square feet at Soundview Playfield & Park, including a new athletic field, comfort station, and other beneficial recreational amenities. The existing natural turf fields were converted into a large synthetic multipurpose sports field that houses football, baseball, softball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, and is complete with a new underdrainage system, Musco field lighting, steel-roofed dugouts, fencing and backstops, and a batting cage. In addition, the design integrated site-accessible routes, pedestrian lighting, cast-in-place amphitheater seating, stair access to an upper field lookout platform, and a comfort station renovated with all-gender stalls. Additionally, SCJ blended environmentally beneficial elements into the design. A new water-efficient irrigation system was retrofitted to replace the old system and meet the needs of the new site improvements. New landscaping and trees were provided to enhance park beauty, supplement the existing Heritage tree grove, provide valuable urban tree canopy, and create a drainage detention pond for stormwater runoff control.
