SCJ provided civil engineering, transportation design, wetland studies, and landscape architecture for the Skokomish Community Center and participated in the master planning of the relocation of tribal facilities and the design of a community center and gymnasium. Our environmental staff delineated wetlands and provided a mitigation plan. The goal was to improve a larger, more valuable wetland located south of the main project area to compensate for the loss of a small isolated remnant wetland within the main project area. The project also triggered crosswalk improvements and the widening of US Highway 101. The results of the transportation design were used to assist with design decisions and in developing mitigation options intended to minimize permitting complexity associated with wetland impacts. The tribe desired landscape architecture that was easy to maintain and encouraged outdoor play. SCJ also designed a walking trail south of the project site.
