The 25,000-square-foot Nisqually Tribe Elders Center in Olympia, WA, is a LEED-certified community building designed to provide amenities and services to the Nisqually Tribe’s elder residents. SCJ Alliance provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services to create a sustainable, culturally respectful environment featuring native fruit-bearing plants, raised planters, outdoor plazas, and gathering spaces. Key elements include a community garden, dry stream beds for stormwater management, and walking paths with site furniture, fostering a sense of community, wellness, and connection to the land. This thoughtfully designed space honors both the environment and the Tribe’s heritage, offering a welcoming, accessible resource for all.
