This project aims to restore and improve a non-motorized rail trail damaged by the 2020 Babb Road fire. Running between Malden and Kenova in eastern Washington, the trail traverses a variety of diverse landscapes–from agricultural fields to moderately dense forests predominantly populated by ponderosa pines. The fire severely impacted the forest canopy along the trail, with approximately half the trees either dead or likely to die within several years. SCJ’s arborist scope includes a comprehensive site assessment to document existing vegetation conditions, map fire-damaged areas, evaluate tree mortality rates, and identify critical wildlife habitats. This data will create a restoration plan that prioritizes both wildlife habitat preservation and recreational uses.
