SCJ supported the City of Seattle by conceptualizing alternatives to replace the existing Magnolia Bridge. This project was unique in that each alternative would affect different groups in the community. Stakeholder management was a constant and intricate part of the design. We led significant outreach on this project in coordination with the City’s on-call communications consultant. Multimodal mobility weighed heavily in our scoring criteria. Over 20 options were considered and each one had multimodal components including bike lanes, sidewalks, and shared-use paths. Our staff became experts on the NACTO guidance for pedestrian, bicycle, and shared-use facilities and we gained a wealth of experience discussing these facilities with passionate stakeholders and the public.
