These projects aim to extend the successful transformation of Highway 99 in Shoreline through Edmonds consistent with the Highway 99 Subarea Plan.
Stage 1 of the project included working with the City, WSDOT, Stakeholders, Council, and the community to identify desired improvements, prepare conceptual designs, estimate project costs, and determine an approach for corridor-wide implementation. With a total cost of over $184M, the project was divided into segments/stages for implementation. An overall approach to the design, right of way, environmental, and utility undergrounding was developed. Preliminary channelization plans were coordinated with WSDOT and illustrated the improvements along the corridor, including wider sidewalks, planter strips, new street lighting, raised center medians, better stormwater management, targeted utility replacements, and potential undergrounding of overhead utilities, landscaping, and streetscape treatments.
The Stage 2 project was the first in the series of implementation stages. It included the design of a raised median throughout the corridor to provide immediate safety improvements, aesthetic benefits, and access control. Our same team led the design of the project, including coordination with WSDOT and stakeholders, along with the Council and business leaders. PS&E was developed, and the project will be in construction shortly.
