SCJ has been selected by a team representing the Oregon Department of Transportation, the City of Reedsport, and Douglas County to prepare a trail plan for the Dean to Dunes corridor along US 101 and OR 38. The eight-mile corridor will link the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Site on the Umpqua River with access to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area on the Pacific near the town of Winchester. Once constructed, the Dean to Dunes Trail will provide a convenient, non-automobile transportation alternative for trips both within and external to the community. Currently, the only opportunity for bicyclists and pedestrians to access areas in and near the City is along a narrow highway shoulder. The City sees this project as a key component of its economic development plan to increase tourism along this portion of the Southern Oregon coast.
