Grant County PUD has been working to enhance user experience at and public access to the Crescent Bar Recreation Area for nearly a decade. SCJ has provided engineering and landscape architecture services for the project both on and off the island. At the Off-Island Recreation Area, SCJ assisted with the redevelopment of a 30+ acre site. A popular boat launch and parking area for passenger and tow vehicles received improvements. The redesign incorporates an overlook plaza with integrated stormwater design.
A large day-use area with new parking, outdoor showers, and native landscaping is located next to an upgraded swim beach. Running north along the Columbia River shoreline, the SCJ team designed a trail that meanders through native landscape and residential areas, capturing views at four plaza overlooks and beaches scattered along the shoreline.
SCJ also worked on the 75-acre on-island portion. It includes a 55-site RV campground surrounded by multipurpose lawns, day-use and picnic areas, pedestrian trails that lead into an upland habitat restoration area, and easy access points to multiple beaches. A new day-use park features a playground, sports courts, and a multiple-family picnic plaza that connects to the beach. SCJ also designed a second two-lane boat launch and 70-vehicle/trailer parking area.
