SCJ’s scope of work involved a comprehensive on-site tree assessment for a 22-acre residential development in Olympia, Washington. SCJ conducted a visual health assessment of approximately 2,000 trees and the documentation of existing vegetation conditions and critical areas. From this information, SCJ prepared a tree protection report with recommendations for tree retention and mitigation that included guidelines for protecting both on-site and off-site trees in accordance with local county regulations. Special attention was paid to a 74-inch diameter old-growth Douglas fir tree at the heart of the site, with SCJ working closely with the county to assess how this natural asset could be best protected. Due to the large number of trees on the project site, SCJ utilized AI technology to create a master tree database capable of generating a tree protection report with custom descriptive text for each tree based on only limited inputs from the arborist and survey team, thus saving the client valuable time and money.
