INVOLVEMENT
2015 - 2017

The 1.3 mile Susie Stephens Trail weaves throughout the community, from river banks and recreational areas through downtown Winthrop. This phase of the multi-use trail connects with the town’s southern commercial zone, incorporating several pedestrian street crossings, including at SR 20; alignment along the Foghorn Water Ditch; and access to the Winthrop Ice Rink.

SCJ engineers and landscape architects worked with the Town to protect sensitive wetland and shoreline areas and preserve mature trees along the trail alignment. A trailhead parking area with stormwater treatment was also designed.

The trail provides a safe, non-motorized route between downtown Winthrop, the ice rink, and the homes and businesses on the south end of town. SCJ also designed the trailhead parking, complete with a rain garden.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“Winthrop is a recreation and tourist dependent community and the Susie Stephens trail is an important non-motorized connection between the downtown core and other trails, lodging, commercial and recreational centers. SCJ has been assisting the Town for several years on this multi-phased project including grant assistance and administration, public outreach, and right of way.”
