To address existing safety issues and concerns on tribal lands, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has initiated development of Tribal Transportation Safety Plans (TTSPs).

The Cowlitz Indian Tribe contracted with SCJ Alliance to prepare a Safety Plan to evaluate its multimodal transportation safety concerns and identify strategies to address these. The Plan focused on pedestrian safety improvements at the tribe’s current administrative offices and health clinic in Longview, WA, as well as its senior housing facility in Toledo, WA.
