It’s International Walk to School Day! SCJ helps local schools take the first step

The National Center for Safe Routes to School invites students, families, school leaders and community partners around the country to celebrate the benefits of walking to school on October 4. Thousands of schools register their Walk to School Day events each year, and three of the registered Thurston County schools are ones SCJ worked with to create safer routes for students who walk to school.

Garfield, Michael T. Simmons and Tumwater Hill are all elementary schools in Thurston County with registered events happening today. Click on their names above to find out what SCJ did to help make their schools a safer place for walking students.

SCJ also significantly improved safety conditions for students at Shelton’s Bordeaux Elementary School and is currently working to create a safer route for students walking between Centralia High School and Centralia Middle School.
